This hot chocolate has been a winter tradition since I first started playing with the recipe in 2011. The amount of nutella and types of milk have changed over the years, but it’s always a treat and I hope you like it too.
This is the recipe I’ve nailed down for my cookbook I’m working on. If you love Nutella or even like it… this is the ultimate hot chocolate treat.
NUTELLA HOT CHOCOLATE
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1 ounce dark chocolate, I used Lindt 70%
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar, or more to taste
- 1 ounce dark rum, optional
(not recommended with Marshmallow Rum Whipped Cream)
Combine two milks, dark chocolate, nutella, and brown sugar in a medium saucepan.
While whisking cook over medium-low heat, until all the ingredients are
melted and incorporated and the drink reaches desired temperature. About 4-5 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in 1 ounce of rum – optional
I don’t advise adding the rum if you are making the
Marshmallow Rum Whipped Cream – it’s boozy enough by itself!
Pour your hot chocolate into mugs and enjoy!
For an extra special treat top it with my Marshmallow Rum Whipped Cream
or eat it on the side with a spoon. Just saying…
P.S. National Nutella Day is February 5 – i.e. tomorrow. This is the perfect treat to celebrate!
