The Godfather | A retro cocktail combining Scotch & Amaretto

It’s Throwback Thursday (TBT)! For most folks that means sharing a picture from a “while” ago on your social media sites.  It’s fun and I really enjoy seeing friends childhood pictures, the changes people have undergone over the years, and the hilarious comments that usually ensue.  Trevor, my husband, and I don’t really embrace this practice in our own lives.  It’s not that I don’t love it, we just simply don’t do it…

So we decided to start our own version of TBT in a fashion that more represents us and our lifestyle.  So on Thursdays we watch old movies, usually classics.  Maybe we have seen them and usually not, but either way we enjoy the tradition and adventure of it! Recently Throwback Thursday has been dedicated to The Godfather movies and well when I saw there was a cocktail called The Godfather it was simple meant to be a combo TBT!

There are tons of recipes out there for this beverage. Some use scotch and amaretto, some bourbon instead of scotch, some are 50/50, or some are mostly one or the other beverage.  We tried some different ratios and bottom line if you like either drink (scotch or amaretto) then there is a version for you, my friend.  It’s sweet, smoky, almond-y goodness and perfect for sipping during an epic movie, which may or may not be it’s namesake. These details are very unclear if you do some cocktail research. Anyways, cheers y’all it’s TBT!

The Godfather | A retro cocktail combine Scotch & Amaretto

  • 2 ounces Scotch (or Bourbon)
  • 1 ounce Amaretto

DIRECTIONS: Fill you cocktail shaker, or glass, about 2/3 full with ice; add whiskey and amaretto. Stir well until chilled, about half a minute; strain mixture into ice or whiskey stone filled glasses. Enjoy!

It’s simple, but a great retro cocktail that is sure to please and impress your guests!  The amaretto takes some of the bite out of the scotch and the almond notes really sing with the smokiness of it.  Now I know amaretto is quite sweet, but in this balance it really doesn’t come through that way, but if you want it sweet simply add more! This will be a cocktail we make again and I hope you give it a go too – TBT or not! 😉
