It’s Friday. Oh yes, TGIF! And whether you survived the work week, or some other obstacle life has thrown your way, or you are fairing this winter weather – it’s happy hour. Even if it isn’t wherever you are under this great big sky… I won’t tell anyone, promise. If you are like me though, you deserve an adult beverage. Not just anything, but something refreshing that reminds you Summer is on the way, it really is… I promise. Before you know it we will curse the sun like pirates and sailors – possibly while still enjoying this bright and lovely drink!
The Salty Dog: a salt rimmed glass, simply filled with grapefruit juice and either gin or vodka. Raise your hand if you prefer gin. *raising my hand* It is also fabulous with tequila (white or gold)! So two of my favorite liquors (tequila & gin) in one of my favorite citruses, all with a little salt on top – oh yeah, I love it. Gin & Juice people. Talkin’ bout Gin & Juice. But, more than that I love the name! It reminds me of something a pirate would say. Probably as either an extreme insult or an endearing nickname. I can’t decide, ye salty dogs. lol, I’m too easily entertained and I promise I haven’t even had anything to drink whilst I type ye ol’ blog post.
Anyways, a happy hour promise that Summer is coming. Until then Avast, happy hour is here ye salty dogs!
THE SALTY DOG
- 1/2 Tbsp of coarse salt
- 5 ounces grapefruit juice
- 1 ounce liquor (gin, vokda, or tequila)
DIRECTIONS: using a wedge of grapefruit or water, wet the rim of glass and run through salt to “rim” glass. Fill with ice, then juice, then liquor – stir & serve.
** you can add a splash of campari or grenadine to enhance color, but I just use good ol’ ruby reds!
Happiest of hours to you & yours. Please stay warm – inside & out,
