I have had the honor of being nominated for the Liebster Award, from the lovely blog: Aberdeen’s Kitchen. Her user-name thumbnail is a cat wearing a chef’s hat – I’m a big fan. She also has lovely photography and some tasty looking dishes scrolling across her feed, so go check it out!  I also feel humbled by being the first on a list of ten nominations! And excited to pay the adventure forward 🙂

So here goes – the DL on the Liebster Award: An award received only from other bloggers, the Liebster was created to help discover and welcome new blogs into the so called blogosphere.

The Rules of a Liebster Award:

  • Post the Liebster Award logo on your blog, on your homepage or in a post.
  • Link back to your nominator
  • Answer the ten questions they have set up for you.
  • Nominate ten other bloggers for the award (preferably with under 1000 followers) and let them know they’ve been nominated.
  • Think of ten questions for your nominees to answer.

Questions from AK:

  1. Why did you start blogging?
Blogging for me is a crafty/hobby that shares both my love of food and food photography.  It is about preserving my families adventures in the kitchen, sharing family recipes, trying cookbook recipes, and then dishing about it.
  2. Other than blogging, what are your hobbies?
Knitting, crocheting, photography, wanna-be runner, sewing/beginner quilting, jewelry-making, gardening, and any other craft-laden business I can get myself into.
  3. What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
Christmas Dinner 2013 – we made Beef Wellington with a Green Peppercorn Gravy, Yorkshire Pudding, Potatoes Dauphinoise, Salad, & Wine.  For dessert we had homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding.  Everything turned out perfectly and we enjoyed making it together!
  4. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
On a Mediterranean Cruise or London.  Both would make me pleased as punch.
  5. What’s your favorite piece of equipment to use in your kitchen?
Stand-mixer.  Whip. Cream. Fold. Knead. It does the hard yards for me in the kitchen and I love it!
  6. What’s behind your blog’s name?
apronclad.com – I LOVE APRONS! I collect them in fact and am always apron-clad when I’m in the kitchen. As for my bi-line: From my grandmother’s apron strings to my own kitchen dreams: A large part of the inspiration for my blog is recognizing my grandmonther “Mema” who taught my brother and I how to cook & bake from a very young age.  We literally grew up on her apron strings.  I love making many of the dishes we grew up on and challenging my skills and knowledge by trying new and fun things that even she thinks are wacky! Thus the second part, my own kitchen dreams…
  7. Are there any blogs that inspire you?
There are a few big ones like:

    • The Sugar Hit – this woman is amaze balls.
    • Joy the Baker – no explanation needed.
    • Serious Eats Recipes – these emails keep me motivated to try new things – like homemade Ricotta!
      you will never go back..
    • Eat the Love – an all-time favorite. Pure awesomeness from cookbook reviews to crazy awesome recipes.
    • Annie’s Eats – classic awesomeness.  Annie inspires in all she does, plus her family is adorable!

And I’ll stop at five blogs, because I could go on and on!!  But, really any and every person who puts the time, attention, and detail in to sharing their kitchen exploits! It’s a lot of work and doing it only makes you appreciate it more!

     8.  What’s the best blog post that you’ve written so far, in your opinion?

This one is the hardest for me! I’m overly critical of myself… how do you judge best? Best response? Best pictures? Most popular?  But, my first instinct is to say the first – Lemon Plus Lavender Scones.  It was a collaboration of a darling friend’s amazing jam and my love of baking tea time treats.  She is such an amazing and supportive friend in all I do and she pushed me to start the blog! Plus, it was the first step! No looking back and some wonderful things have followed, including my husband’s favorite – the strawberry week series.

     9.  What is your favorite food?

Chips & Salsa -mind you I love a LOT of different foods. But this is my go to comfort and I never get tired of it! Texas gal through and through!!

     10. Any advice to us fellow bloggers?

Don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t make it stressful.  Life happens, plans fail, and sometimes you will love things that other people think are “meh”.  Don’t sweat it.  Do it for the reasons that inspire you. For me it is making my husband proud.  He loves my blog and loves to tell people about it.  I love that is drives me to switch things up. And I LOVE sharing a piece of our kitchen with the world.  It’s a great creative outlet. So don’t sweat it! Make sure it is always more rewarding than stressful and it will never be “work”! ❤ Cheers & keep going!

NOW in other news – lots of big and crazy changes are ahead for my family.  In light of my workload, two trips out of the town this month, and our busy lives – I am taking the blog off the air or the month of April.  I’m gonna detox from sugar, take my second certification test, and conquer the world.  Or not… but either way I will be back in May with more delicious lovin’ from our kitchen.

Here is to new things & a beautiful Spring,

ApronClad
